Today we took a closer look at the most important part of your Facebook profile, yes that’s right, the profile photo. Pixable’s smart algorithm sorts through an immense amount of data every while ranking photos, and with the help of Pixable’s Director of Analytics, we were able to pull out a few interesting tidbits. Take a look at what we found below!
This data raises some interesting questions:
Why are we uploading profile photos more often every year?
Perhaps, we recognize that having an online presence is now the norm and maintaining it is important. The internet after all has become an integral part of many of our lives, and Facebook is only becoming a more primary channel of communication – a channel that ties every message to an online representation of ourselves (our profile page). What do you think?
Why do women upload new profile photos more often than men?
Perhaps it’s that self-expression is more important to them and this is one form of it. We could also ask if females are simply more vain. What do you think?

Does data from the Pixable user base, which is less than 1% of the Facebook user base, considered a trend of all Facebook users? I think not.
I am a man and typically upload a new profile photo once a year (I upload Wall/Mobile photos from my iPhone and Mac once a week, however). I am also an “old.”

Wow, I can’t believe people are uploading new photos this often. Maybe it’s because Pixable users are more active with photos overall, or their the trend setters & at least in LinkedIn, I know lots of folks who update their profile pic monthly to get visibility in weekly update email.
People are changing there profile picture to be updated as time is always changing as of their faces.
