The Lying Down Game is an internet meme involving people taking photos of themselves rigidly lying face down. According to the Facebook group description (Facebook is where the meme seems to have originated – though there is also an official website for the phenomenon: http://www.lyingdowngame.net/) in order to correctly play the lying down game, people must pose in their photos as if they are standing… only not.
“Please be aware that the palms of your hands must be flat against your side and the tips of your toes pointing at the ground. Just as if you were standing, but vertically challenged. FACE DOWN!”
There are also two guidelines to consider when taking your lying down photos:
1) the more public the better.
2) the more people involved the better.
The creators also note that they cannot be held liable for any accidents, injuries, or criminal proceedings resulting from participating in the game. I guess that’s because people do things like this:
Needless to say (though I’ll say it anyway) these guidelines and rules have inspired some really creative lying down photos! Check out these sites to take a closer look at some people awkwardly lying down in public places:

What’s the point of the game? I have no idea… it could be to make as many people in close proximity as confused and uncomfortable as possible while obeying public decency laws. But then, why the photograph? Couldn’t people all lie down and make passers-by confused without the photographic proof? Ah, but then it wouldn’t have become an internet phenomenon!
It appears that in these modern times, nothing really matters unless it is documented. And it really, really doesn’t matter unless everyone and their uncle sees it on the internet! The proof? This blog post!
…I’m going to leave you with a photo of us playing the lying down game in the office. Hope it inspires you to play along!
