Tutorial: How Best To Make Use Of Your FB Photos

It is a well known fact that Facebook, in order to conserve server space and reduce the amount of bandwidth used, reduces (compresses) the resolution of pictures uploaded by users. Given that for many Facebook users that want to print photos this is a reason for concern, at Pixable we would like to share with you a couple of pointers on this subject:

1)      The resolution of images stored on Facebook is not as high as to print a big poster. Therefore, we do not recommend users increase image sizes to reach a full page of the photobook. Instead, we propose users position 2 or 3 pictures per page in a collage format, similar to the placement that can be seen in the album that appears on our homepage, or to place only 1 picture per page but without reaching the full size of the page. All our tests have shown us that using this approach, the image quality of FB pictures is preserved. Likewise, on their web page, HP mentions that Facebook pictures can print images of up to 4″x6″ (using some filters) without experiencing a noticeable loss in quality.

2)      In the case a user want to use a high quality picture to take-up a full page of the album (i.e. cover), Pixable allows users to upload pictures directly from their computers or link to their photos on Flickr or Picasa. In fact, users may choose to create albums using solely images, of more than 3 MB, uploaded from their computers. For added convenience, Pixable also allows users to add photos they have stored on Picasa and Flickr, giving users more options at the time of choosing pictures for their albums.

Currently creating an album on Kodak, Shutterfly, etc takes on average three hours and a half. In fact, we have heard from our friends and potential customers that many users did not create albums because of how time consuming the process is (asking friends for their pictures, choose the pictures, cropping and rotating them, uploading them, giving them title, etc.) When we created Pixable, our goal was to resolve this issue. Fortunately, we’ve been able to solve this issue not only for us but for millions of people worldwide.

Our value proposition is simple: in less than 5 minutes, a user can create an album using existing pre-organized content from FB (independent of whether it was uploaded by the user or one of his friends) and receive it at home for less than $8; And just to make it clear, when we talk about content, we don’t just mean images; we’re also talking about comments, tags, picture titles, etc. created by a collaboration of users, not just a single user. In Pixable we’re cool like that; after all, using content from a collaboration of sources makes album creation easier, faster, and more fun!
